Hello everyone, this is my short blog and top tips on how to get kids involved in the garden by growing some quick, easy and cheap fruit and veg plants!
Getting kids attention for longer than 5 minutes in the garden can be tricky, but if you can get them interested it can be extremely rewarding for them. Time outside can only be beneficial for both you and your little ones, getting down and dirty with nature is not only great fun, but a great stress reliever as well as learning about and exploring the garden as you go. Planting some simple veg seeds in pots around the garden will not only provide a great sense of achievement, but also teach them they must look after the plant by watering everyday or so if they want it to succeed!
Grow quick growing plants - I would recommend Radish/Spinach/Rainbow Chard all take around 3 weeks from planting until first harvest! Super quick, super colourful and super tasty. Also you get a lot of seeds from a packet and their often fairly cheap. Tomatoes and Strawberry's are also fairly easy and you will enjoy the fruits long into the summer!
Water ! You must remember to water each evening, its best once the sun has gone down. Encourage the children to do this, they will have a greater sense of achievement.
Don't break the bank. Its easy to get carried away when you visit the garden centre but all you need is a few simple recycled plastic pots (which garden shops will often have free of charge if you ask), a bag of standard compost and a few packets of seeds! Those who live near me, I often have pots just ask!
Harvest with the kids and cook with the kids! Let them see the full process from planting the seed, to eating their own fruit or veg of the plate!
Now is a great time to start as the hot weather is upon us, Good Luck!

Keep it cheap - Its easy to spend a fortune going into a garden centre, but all you need is
